M.C.KEHHHHH!!
Hey yall! Another week in Africa down and I loved every second of it!! So, let's go over some highlights of this week, shall we?
First off: finally met some people that did Voodoo and it was pretty fun. They seemed like normal people but, when we asked them to come to church they started dancing chanting "we do Voodoo!" And something else i didn't understand (think it was évé) and we just turned around and walked away, pretty fun! Not what I was expecting from Voodoo people and to be honest they could have been lying so we would leave. It worked tho!
Second: put two more friends on date for baptism!! One dude was being taught in Benin before moving here and our first time meeting him he said "I need to be baptized, I am ready" and so we came to with a plan on when to teach him the lessons and he's already coming to church so November 23rd here we come! He's so excited!
Talking about baptisms! We got one this Saturday! We have been teaching this sister for a few weeks and she is so excited and just wants to be baptized already!
Let's explain this title shall we? Mckee is to hard for people to say so I have received the nickname M.C.KEH and it's the best thing ever hearing a bunch of Africans go "M.C.KEHHHHH!!!!" When they see me makes my day so much better, I love the people here.
The power was out for most of today so we have been sitting in the heat alllll day and we were sweating so much. hahaha Luckily my amazing mother packed me a rechargeable portable fan so while everyone else dying of heat I had a nice breeze for a few hours....until my fan died...and I started sweating. But I found the roof has such a nice breeze so I went up there and sat in the shade and enjoyed a nice breeze for a few minutes. Then, the power turned back on and all of us may have cheered. hahah it's a happy day! Means we are sleeping in heat, but we have our fans.
Anyways, y'all this week was pretty lit! Africa is an amazing place with amazing people. I'm seeing new things every day and loving every second of it!
Everyone have an amazing week! Remeber Jesus loves you and you can always email me I'll respond on p-day!
Love,
Elder M.C.KEH
Extras:
**I think the African people think I’m fat. It’s happened a couple times, but when we got to someones house they bring a chair out for Tolman to sit on. Then, when they bring me a chair they stack two chairs and want me to sit on them both. haha. I started sitting on the floor, and then they just give me one chair. Even thought I’m down 13 lbs since the MTC I must still be too big for the local chairs.
**We were at a lesson with some girls and I can’t speak French so I was just sitting there and the girls told Tolman they didn’t want me to look at them so I took my chair down the hall and sat there while he taught them.
**In your videos every adult woman is called Momma? Andy: yes, if she has kids you say “Momma” and then usually her first borns name. So, you would be Momma Jake. But really it can be any of her kids names.
**Are there police and guns in your city? Andy: Yes, we see the police but they don’t bother us and they don’t do much. Everyone can have a gun, but only the police can have bullets. They don’t really know how to handle guns. Some Elders have seen them swinging it around and resting their heads on the barrels.
