Walks, Miracles, Banana Bread
Yo, GREAT week. please allow me to tell you about it..
Let's break it up in three parts by the title!
WALKS
I love Kpalime with my whole heart and that will never change. The walks are getting me...not the distance, but for the first time in over a year I have noticeable elevation change in my walks... my legs aren't used to it anymore. We are also going into hot season and we walk quite a bit each day and each morning and evening I am dretched in sweat, literally dripping off my nose, chin, arms, hands, ears, everywhere. That being said would I change it? No, no I would not, for two reasons 1) this is the Lords work and I'm willing to sweat for it 2) Imma come home so freaking skinny it’s gonna be wild. One walk that happened this week was one of the most meaningful walks I've taken but so worth it and that goes with the miracles section but the walk was beautiful, going to a small village, crossing a river on a small log using sticks to stable ourselves, walking through
and the jungle to get this gospel to a family.
MIRACLES!
So, every day we see miracles, no doubt about it and I love seeing each one but there was one I would like to tell y'all about. We have been teaching this man named Kossi and he has been progressing so well and comes to church every Sunday. He has a family but he said "I want to make sure this gospel is good before I bring my family into it.” Well, this last week he decided his family needs this gospel so we planned to go to his house and talk with them, we went to his work and called him. We did not know the places they were saying to find their house, so he eventually came and got us. This man is in his 60s, has REALLY bad hips and knees, and he walked for about 3 miles with us to show us his house and get the gospel to his family. We got there well after dark but his wife, and 4 kids welcomed us with such kindness as they came out saying "LES MISSIONARIES!" and they took us unto a building just next to their house...and it's a church (slight 'uh oh' in my head) giving us chairs I could see a stand to give talks from and drums and other things African churches usually have. We start talking with the family and they have read all the books we gave to Kossi and are asking questions on who's Mormon, what does this mean, what does that mean, etc. such good questions. Then, the wife asks how the baptism works, how long it could take to be baptized, if they would be able to do it, which is yes because he has paid the dôte (a huge problem here, it’s a marriage fee.) She also told us about a friend and he saw the BOM in their house and is interested in the restoration brochure and asked us for some to give him! The spirit was there ladies and gentlemen, it was amazing. At the end I asked the big question "who uses this church?" (Scared it was him and he's a practicing pastor) and they said "oh no one anymore, sometimes we come in here to sing with our friends, maybe you guys can come and do your lessons for us and our friends here! And do the sacrement here if possible." It was such a cool experience to see this family so open to the gospel and even making plans to get this gospel to their friends and family in this small village. They truely want the gospel for everyone out there. Elder Wensel and I walked the whole 2 hour walk home on a spiritual high, the church is growing and I am so glad to be apart of it! Sunday we went back and Kossi said he has a strong desire to be baptised so we set a date and will be making one for the rest of his family here soon!
BANANA BREAD:
I made banana bread for district council and it was pretty fire. I forgot to start it till 10 at night the day before district council so i was up till like 11 making it for everyone but it turned out pretty good! All in all a win for the week
Spiritual thought
This week I'm going talk about the example of the family above.
They heard the gospel, it touched them, they liked it, they have a desire to share it with their loved ones, it is an amazing example for me, just like Lehi in 1 Nephi 8. He tasted the fruit of tree of life (word of God) and immediately had the desire to share it with his family. What I've seen on my mission is it's common for us not want to share worldly things (food, money, candy etc) but when the Word of God truly touches us, we are willing to share it with anyone that will listen (Mosiah 28:3) even its a covenant we make during baptism, be a witness of Christ is all places, that means to share his words, the scriptures, conference talks, something you learned in come follow me, etc. I love seeing people who are usually closed to sharing open up to share the word of God! GO SHARE THIS WORD!!
Please pray for
- Malgro family(Kossis family)
- Francis
- the children (God knows who)
That's all this week, little longer of an email but hope y'all enjoyed the stories. The spirit was so strong there, its hard to write the spirit into a email (2 N ephi 33:1)
Love you all!
Love,
ELDER MCKEE
