Set Apart and Dropoff

Andy was set apart on September 9.  We had spent the day together as a family.   We went to the rec pool and played, then came back to our house for crepes, and family time.  At the setting apart we were each asked to give Andy one word advice.

Joci: Compassion, have it for yourself and those around you.

Jake: Fun, have fun, it makes you better.

Josh: Purpose, Remember your purpose

Malena: Empathy, have it, pray for it, look for it.

Dad: Flexibility, got with the flow, adapt, represent yourself and the Savior, Listen to the Savior.

Mom: Pill, TAKE IT!!

Perseverance, Keep going, it will be hard, and we will be        waiting here when you are done in 2 years.

President Johnson: Family, Culture shock will happen, but you will see them as a family as brothers and Sisters.

President Trotter: Jesus Christ, He is your purpose, take Him, and teach.  Come back converted.

President Averett: Light, you are a light.  You will light up the place.  You’re bringing the light.

Then he was set apart as a missionary and had a nice blessing.

We went and did our missionary jump picture at the pond.  We have done one with each of the kids when they leave on their missions.  We didn't plan on it becoming a tradition when we took the picture when Jake left, but it's fun.
Malena had to leave early the next morning to get back to Hawaii for school so they said goodbye Monday night.

We spent Tuesday fishing up in the mountains, and then went to dinner on our way to the airport.  It was late for the little girls, so Andy said goodbye to Joci, Eva, and Teddy at the restaurant.  We asked Eva how she wanted to say goodbye and she thought about it for a minute then said, "I want to say goodbye in a stinky way."  And grabbed Andy's arm and smelled it and said, " You smell like poo." haha.  Andy and Eva tease each other about being stinky so it was a perfect goodbye. :)

And we were off to the airport.  It was hard.  Mom tried hard to hold in together, but IT IS HARD!!  Andy was ready to go.  We were able to meet up with the other two elders traveling with him, so that was nice to know he wasn't traveling over there alone.

Josh and Andy have done this pose when Josh left and got home, and now when Andy leaves.
Elders Monson, Giles, and McKee.  They fly from SLC to Atlanta to JFK to Ghana.

It will be a long 2 days.

Met up with a couple  other missionaries in Atlanta.  And another in JFK.  They left at 11:20 pm on Tuesday from Slc, and Landed in Ghana on Thursday morning at 7:00 am.  It was a long flight, but Andy was able to sleep most of the time with the help of melatonin.
